Dubuque’s first Non-Chiropractic Certified Expert Acupuncturist (L.Ac., Dipl. Ac., BCIM).

Joel Thielen is president and founding member of Elements Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine Clinic based in Dubuque, Iowa. He is Dubuque’s first State Licensed and Nationally Board Certified (NCCAOM) Acupuncturist. He is a Fellow and board member of the American Association of Integrative Medicine. Prior to founding Elements Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine Clinic with his wife Kristine in 2006, Joel was an associate Acupuncturist at Abundance Acupuncture in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. While there he worked with Senior Acupuncturist, David Millbrandt specializing in classical Chinese medicine and advanced pain management. Joel has also worked and lectured at Finley Babka Wellness Center in Dubuque, Iowa and studied under various master Acupuncturists including Susan Johnson, Dr. Robert Chu, Dr. Wei-Chien Young, Dr. C.J. Chen, Richard Tan, Dr. Ming Qing Zhu, Bob Doone and others. Joel did his undergraduate studies at St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota. He completed his masters level post graduate certification in Acupuncture at Midwest College of Oriental Medicine (Racine, WI / Chicago, IL) in 2006. There he completed 2100 hours of schooling in three academic years and graduated with honors.
